Summary of data management meeting Tuesday, October 7th, 2003 9:30 Bat 2-R008

- Bookkeeping
  - No changes in the access to the bookkeeping information
  - Sebastien is investigating a generic implementation
    to select datasets with many processing steps.
    Although he has some ideas, he will require some
    time to think about advantages and disadvantages
    of the different solutions.

  - Bookkeeping using Alien
    - Andrei and Vincent had no chance to investigate
      this alternative solution any further.

- Filecatalogs
  - Technology choice
    (EDG-RLS, Alien, POOL-MySQL-LHCb)       
    - No change of state. However, the common understanding
      was to follow the ARDA proposal.

- User analysis and simulation productions
  - Workload management service(s)
    Vincent and Andrei are working on the first prototype.
    Andrei reported, that significant progress was
    made in this area and that a first prototype
    can be expected very soon.

  - New production tools under development
    Gennady, Andrei and the Ganga team (which joined the club)
    are together working out a cohearent solution,
    which will enable us define the workflows
    for user analysis and data production
    in a very similar way. Investigations are going on
    in order to create an integrated desktop application,
    which will allow to coordinate user analysis
    activity with Ganga and the work flow/step editors
    to be used from within one application.
    It was very much appreciated, that the Ganga team
    joined the effort in order to not end up with
    incompatible solutions.
    One particular point mentioned was the choice of
    graphical libraries, which are incompatible between
    the two solutions.

- It was agreed to have a short meeting next Tuesday, 
		  October 14th. 2003 at 9:30
  to discuss the agenda of the mini workshop at RAL.
