Minutes of the Dat Management meeting 27 January 2004

Workload Management system:
---------------------------
Vincent and Andrei are preparing the distribution of the workload management system.
This implies to re-arrange the code and to prepare some documentation. 
Once it is done, it will be distributed to some site willing to test it.

At Oxford several new centre will be available for LHCb. (Supercomputer Center, 
E-science center and particle physics ). Ian will be the contact person.


LCG2 : nothing is in place yet. The ressource Broker is most of the time 
down. Ian decided to do not waste his time for the moment to try LCG2.

We learn from IT that all LXBATCH node have now the outbound connectivity.
Action : Nick could you ask the NBC what is the status or policy in the 
various center about the outbound connectivity for DC04 and for the futur.


Monitoring:
----------
Ricardo report a problem in the way to handle the name of the site return 
by the WMS. It seems that the Python package that is used has problem to 
understand properly the character / in the string manipulation.
 He will investigate.

Accounting:
-----------
Ricardo presented his draft on the accounting and said that they will work 
on the design during one week and in two weeks a prototype could be done. 
The main point which has been discussed, was the necessity to hae an interface 
to get the RAW data and an application with some predefined plots.


File Catalog:
-------------
Last week Markus, Andrei and Andreas (from the ALIEN team) work together 
and an API in C++ has been written to interface POOL and the Alien File 
Catalog. This week it will be tested on the Marseille machine.

Now we need tools to populate the Alien File Catalog from the XML files. 
Andrei will provide these tools.

There was a discussion about GUID and file. It was not clear that who 
is handling GUID with POOL, RLS and the Alien file catalog. This should 
be clarified by Markus and Andrei.


Software package management:
----------------------------
Andrei has packaged all the new LHCb applications based on Gaudi v14r0. 
We have to test the packaging and integrate it in the release procedure 
for a new package.


WorkFlow Editor:
----------------
Gennady said that the code generation was working and he is studying the 
connection to the database. There will be discussion on Thursday and Friday 
(29/30 january) between Andrei, Gennady and Joel to clarify and do a planning 
for the futur steps with the workflow editor.

Ricardo write a draft about job submission tools and it will be discussed 
next week.


AOB:

Andrei would like to know if the local production manager prefer to run the 
agent as daemon or as crontab. A mail will be send to the lhcb-production mailing 
list to get some answer.

It has been remind that during DC04, all files should be accessible from 
outside the GRID.
