Summary of data management meeting Monday, March 29th, 2004 16:00 Bat 2-R030 ============================================================================== Workload Management System (Ian, Vincent): - WMS is capable now of using several batch systems - Output file entries are stored in Alien catalog - Output files are automatically transferred to the local storage element. - Monitoring is integrated - The central information service needs some cleanup before the final installation. - The service is now running without problems on lbnts1 see Vincent's talk: http://agenda.cern.ch/askArchive.php?base=agenda&categ=a036537&id=a036537s2t7/transparencies Monitoring and accounting: - WMS info is not yet automatically moved into the accounting. - A policy is needed for the automatic movement of the monitoring information into the accounting database. - Manuel asked for input/comments to the monitoring web interface. People are invited to try them. See also Ricardos presentation: http://agenda.cern.ch/askArchive.php?base=agenda&categ=a036537&id=a036537s2t9/transparencies Data management tools/issues: - Access to the production testbed is now granted and software installation is possible. The procedure works for most sites: - KA, Spain, RAL and LCG-PBS ok. - NIKHEF and LCG-LSF: write access possible, but still problems with permissions - Software is installed using a tag of the form: LCG___V It was recommended to use LCG tools for the software installation, which is problematic since we want to install software on a project bases. - A tool is necessary to find out if software of a given project/version is installed on a given site. - A policy is needed for the individual TierXX centres for storing the output data. - Also "special file types" need to be defined for diffeent treatment for e.g. data and log files. - It is difficult to find a version of gridftp, which does not depend on many libraries. Since several sites are only accessible through grisftp, a solution must be found. POOL: - The problem seen with POOL using mysql libraries is solved. These libraries are not needed, the link dependency was atrificially introduced through the POOL interface package. - XML catalog slicing tool should use a common interface implemented by the bookkeeping catalog and the Alien catalog.
